Business leaders from Stockport are invited to join a network of sustainability champions to demonstrate their commitment to decarbonisation.

The new programme, delivered by Green Economy in partnership with Bee Net Zero, has been developed to connect business leaders and managers to offer real life examples of how businesses have developed and delivered on their carbon reduction plans – driving environmental impacts as well as cost savings for their business.

The launch event will be hosted by musicMagpie, with Phill Marples, Head of Sustainability, taking on a role as a Sustainability Champion.

Speaking of the programme Phill said: “As a business musicMagpie is committed to supporting Greater Manchester’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2038, but my hope is that Sustainability Champions will enable other businesses to get started. Net Zero is not just an ESG tickbox, since we’ve worked with Green Economy, we’ve driven cost savings across our operation.”

Phill will be joined at the event by Will Perrott, Managing Director of Clean Air Ltd, who have reduced their carbon footprint whilst increasing their turnover, and Brett Mendell, Managing Director of the King’s Award for Sustainable Development winning Thomas Kneale & Co.

Becky Chedd, who is leading the Sustainability Champions programme for Green Economy said: “This unique event is a chance for businesses to see and hear what decarbonisation means in practice. They will hear from their peers about the opportunity that net zero presents, but also to understand some of the challenges and pitfalls they have faced along the way. The aim is for attendees to leave with a network of support that they can call upon for advice and mentoring as they tackle carbon reduction in their own business.”

The Sustainability Champions event takes place at musicMagpie’s premises in Hazel Grove, on Thursday 25 July, and delegates will be able to tour the site and see first-hand some of the energy efficient improvements that the business has made.
