Bee Net Zero partner, Pro-Manchester’s Transport committee is organising a transformative panel to help steer short journeys away from cars to more sustainable options.
People in Greater Manchester make around 250 million car journeys of less than one kilometre each year, which is the equivalent of a 15-minute walk or a five-minute cycle journey. If these journeys were made using active travel methods, our region would prevent at least 42,750 tonnes of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere each year which would be the equivalent saving of planting 21 million new trees.
While this seems like an easy way for Greater Manchester to reduce carbon emissions, instigating behaviour change amongst people and businesses is a huge challenge for our region’s local authorities and green transport providers.
With insights on EV advancements, cycling infrastructure and the complexities of promoting public transportation, this panel session by pro-manchester will explore strategies for behavioural change and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly and active modes of transport.
‘The Last Mile: Navigating Sustainable Transport’ will be held at the Mills & Reeve Manchester Office at No.1 Circle Square on Wednesday 31st January 2024 from 8:30 am to 10 am.
Confirmed speakers include Alice Pleasant, Public Affairs Manager at Lime, Philip Ellis CEO of Beryl Bikes and Leigh Bramall, Director at Counter Context.
The panel will explore the role of e-bikes and e-scooters as well as cycle hire schemes in changing our behaviours and how Greater Manchester can encourage the behaviour change needed to reduce car use.
The event is free for pro-manchester members to attend and £20 for non-members.
