Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre: Setting the Standard as a Verified Net Zero Hotel
- Posted By The Growth Company
Following an extensive renovation in 2025, Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre has established itself as a global pioneer in sustainable hospitality, becoming the first Verified Net Zero hotel in the UK and across the international hotel industry. Located on Cheetham Hill Road, the hotel demonstrates how environmental responsibility can be embedded into every level of hotel design and operation.

A key milestone in the hotel’s journey has been the complete elimination of Scope 1 and 2 emissions. This has been achieved through full electrification of the building, removing the need for fossil fuels entirely. Initiatives include the installation of induction kitchens and air-to-water heat pumps to provide hot water efficiently and sustainably.
Beyond its own operations, the hotel has taken significant steps to reduce Scope 3 emissions by transforming its supply chain. This includes decarbonising food and beverage sourcing, selecting more sustainable hotel amenities, and reducing the environmental impact of purchased goods and services. Any remaining emissions are addressed through carbon removal programmes that support regenerative agriculture, helping local farmers adopt practices that restore soil health and capture carbon naturally.

The hotel has introduced multiple waste-saving initiatives, supported by quarterly waste audits and ongoing staff training to improve recycling rates and minimise unnecessary disposal. Guest services have also been digitalised to significantly reduce paper and printed materials. In addition, the hotel works closely with local suppliers to optimise deliveries and logistics, helping to reduce transportation-related emissions.
The hotel’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its own operations. As the official hotel sponsor of Co-op Live, it recognises the venue as a leader in sustainable development within Greater Manchester.
Through bold investment, innovation, and a clear commitment to sustainability, the hotel is setting a new benchmark for hospitality, showing how climate-conscious design and operations can create better outcomes for guests, communities and the environment.
