Although many people have returned to the workplace after working from home during the pandemic, many are still commuting by car.

Transport for Greater Manchester believes that ticket prices and crowding on trams are often seen as potential barriers to choosing public transport for a commute and is seeking to address this.

Therefore, Bee Net Zero partner, Transport for Greater Manchester has launched a campaign that seeks to equip people across Greater Manchester with information about travelling by tram so that they can make the switch to this sustainable mode of transport.

There are several flexible ticket options available to commuters, such as the Early Bird, Weekly Cap, and Clipper, which provide value for money for users. This offers users a degree of flexibility when travelling by tram and can help employees to save money during the cost of living crisis.

The flexible ticket options available to commuters are:

Early Bird – Beneficial for people who can travel before 7 am on weekdays, and outside of peak hours (7 am to 9.30 am for subsequent journeys). It means that the daily fare cap for their journeys will be at the off-peak travelcard price, giving a saving of up to £2.20 on a £7.10 standard ticket for all four zones, which will then only cost £4.90.

Weekly Cap - Beneficial for people who commute five (or more) days per week. Travel on multiple days during the week (Monday to Sunday) and touch in using contactless, we’ll charge for each day until the total reaches the weekly cap for the zones you’ve travelled through. The rest of your journeys in those zones will be free until the end of the week. The most you will pay for a week is £31 if you travel in all zones – a saving of £4.50.

Clipper – Beneficial for hybrid workers. Each Clipper will include 10 identical Metrolink adult 1-day travelcards. You can choose anytime or off-peak travelcards, for any combination of zones. All 10 travelcards must be used within 8 weeks (56 days). The price for each Clipper will be the total for nine travelcards, so you get one free.

Transport for Greater Manchester is reaching out to employers across Greater Manchester to help them to encourage their employees to change their commute to public transport in an attempt to lower their carbon footprint and save money.
