Anderton Board and Packaging supply board and packaging to a range of sectors including furniture manufacturers and food and beverage suppliers from their factory on Trafford Park.
The business began working with Green Economy’s Sustainability and Net Zero consultants in 2020 to improve the energy efficiency of its facility in Trafford Park.
Anderton Board has received fully-funded support from Bee Net Zero partner Green Economy’s Sustainability and Net Zero consultants over the years.
They have been awarded two grants, the first to install new, energy-efficient LED lighting and heating units, and latterly to install a high-speed roller shutter door, replacing the existing door which was open for around two hours per day, and contributing to significant heat loss.
Richard Gregg, Managing Director at Anderton Board and Packaging said:
“Without that financial support, we would have struggled to get those investments off the ground because of the difficult economic climate. Thanks to the grant, we were able to reduce our running costs and carbon footprint. In addition, our advisor helped us to find a suitable local supplier for the upgrades. The new roller door increases our premises’ energy efficiency and we saw a return on investment within six months.”
Robert Ward, CEO of Anderton Board and Packaging attended Journey to Net Zero - Green Economy’s training programme which helps businesses develop and implement a carbon reduction strategy.
Robert said:
“I was most pleased that I signed up, as the output provided helpful frameworks to understand what net zero is all about and what processes SMEs like ourselves can introduce to implement solutions,” Robert says of his experience.
“When we speak to our customers, environmental certifications and accreditations are of increasing importance. Our customers are listening to the shifting opinion of the public, which means less plastic and more sustainable alternative. For a packaging firm like ours, its essential we stay on top of consumer trends to ensure we can meet the demands of an increasingly climate-conscious end user.”
Carl Hirst, Sustainability and Net Zero Advisor at Green Economy said:
“Anderton Board and Packaging are an example of a business that is driven by continuous improvement. I’m delighted that the support they’ve received over the years means that they can identify ways to improve their environmental performance and reduce energy demand. This is not only great for cashflow, but for their customers and their long-term business resilience.”
Our work with Anderton Board is part of the Bee Net Zero Trafford Park initiative, a new partnership between Trafford Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Growth Company, which aims to support businesses on the park to reduce their emissions and improve efficiency.
